About CBA

Nestled in a tree-lined valley of the Appalachian foothills in northeast Alabama, Calhoun Baptist Association (CBA) equips its churches by preparing “God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up.” (Ephesians 4:12 NIV) CBA enables and assists the family of self-governing churches in Calhoun County in cooperating to extend the kingdom of Jesus Christ in their local setting and beyond.

On May 27-29, 1892 twenty-nine churches in Calhoun County met at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville to form an Association. The delegates led by E. T. Smyth moved that the Association be known as the Calhoun County Baptist Association.

Today CBA helps its 87 Southern Baptist churches to meet a particular need and to cooperate as a group of churches to achieve goals involving missions, training leaders, and influencing government to make decisions that are basically Christian. CBA and its churches are involved in meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of people in Calhoun County, the state of Alabama, the US, and the world. From disaster relief trips to World Changers teams coming to the area CBA churches minister to and share the Gospel to people while lives are being changed. Calhoun Baptist Association obeys Jesus’ charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:18-20 The Message)
